I love to juice but it has been a while. I have been really enjoying the last days of summer and along with that involves a lot of eating out and happy hour drink specials. So I had to get back to the basics because not only am I gaining a little bit of weight but I noticed that my skin and hair are actually very dry.
Here is my recipe:
- 1 bag of mixed power greens (includes spinach, baby bok choy, baby red & green chard)
- 1 stalk of celery
- 5 spears of asparagus
- 1/2 of an English cucumber
- 1 granny smith apple
Benefits of ingredients
Spinach: Aids in digestion, prevents constipation, maintains low blood sugar, and curbs overeating. Also, the high amount of vitamin A in spinach promotes healthy skin by allowing proper moisture retention in the epidermis, fighting psoriasis, keratinization, acne and even wrinkles.
Baby Bok Choy: Bok choy is rich in beta-carotene, an antioxidant which has been found in studies to be effective in reducing a person's risk of cancer. Some people have even suggested that beta-carotene may actually reverse the damage that has already occurred as a result of cancer cells in the body. Bok choy is also a great source of fiber, which is essential for healthy digestion.
Baby Red & Green Chard: an excellent source of vitamins K, A, and C, as well as a good source of magnesium, potassium, iron
Celery: It is a good source of Vitamin C, B1, B2 and B6 with calcium, potassium, and folic acid. Aids in curing bad breath, insomnia, gout, and it has zero calories!
Asparagus: Packed with antioxidants, ranking among the top fruits and vegetables for its ability to neutralize cell-damaging free radicals. According to preliminary research, may help slow the aging process.
Cucumbers: Cucumbers are 95 % water, keeping the body hydrated while helping the body eliminate toxins. Can be used for skin irritations and sunburns as aloe would be used. Place a slice over puffy eyes and its anti-inflammatory properties help reduce puffiness. The silicon and sulfur in cucumbers also help to stimulate hair growth.
Granny Smith apple: According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, one medium Granny Smith apple contains 14 percent of the daily value of vitamin C, an important vitamin that plays many roles in your body, such as healing wounds and forming scar tissue.
